Window washers brave dangerous heat: Phoenix: It's a scorcher - June 1st and already in the record books as an excessive heat warning blankets our state. People in downtown Phoenix are carrying on despite the blistering heat. Some walkers tried hiding under umbrellas and one woman ate ice cream. Construction worker Manny Lua retreated to the shade during his lunch break."It is tough sometimes. You got to make sure you drink a lot of water," he said.
No doubt it's hot down here, but up there where the sun reflects off the glass, it's 5 to 10 degrees warmer. "Constant heat coming back at you, face, arms.." said window washer Aaron Berry. While suspended over the city, Berry says it's easy to suffer from heat exhaustion. Water in constantly pulled up to washers and what they wear is also important. "Long sleeves are hot, but it helps us out from sun rays," said Berry. "Little vents on our helmets, airflow."
His feet however, stay relatively cool. "When we are just hanging up there, the heat doesn't bother our feet that much." Across the street at Phoenix's City Scape - a fun way to take on the sun. Children like 2-year-old Isabella found the ultimate cool down on a hot day. "You play in the water or you stay inside," said Michelle Hanson.
