Torrington man launches drone film business: A Torrington window cleaner is planning to make extra cash filming weddings and stag dos – from the sky. Ian Kevern, who owns Squeek Ian Clean, recently bought a drone and started posting his dramatic videos of North Devon’s hills, valleys and beaches on YouTube. “My video of Castle Hill in Torrington really got everyone going,” he said. “There was a massive thick fog down in the valley. “The video was a bit shaky -I’ve got better since then – but I got so many positive comments from people.” Ian was encouraged when his video of a Torrington church “went down a treat” with viewers.

He said people had contacted him to say they were “moved to tears” by his aerial views of the local landmark. Ian was content flying his drone as a hobby until he thought, “Hang on, there’s some money to be made here”. “I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon early,” he said. “Drone businesses are already making good money in the US, filming high-end properties for estate agents.” Ian has had to complete a civil aviation course and apply for legal permission to use the drone professionally. He will be required to adhere to strict guidelines, such as not flying the drone above 400 feet.

Having parachuted and joined his 70-year-old father on his paragliding adventures, drone flying was a natural activity for Ian to take up. “I’ve spent most of my life outside, running and surfing,” he said. “I decided to get a new hobby which wouldn’t involve sweaty clothes lying around the house. I checked out some of the drone videos and thought it was something I could get into.” Ian is planning to test his drone filming skills to the limit at his son’s upcoming wedding at Tapeley Park. “It’s a brilliant thing to work with because it’s so intelligent,” he said. “If I get into trouble the drone will come back and land pretty much where I tell it to.”

The compact drone flies by itself and follows a tracking device that is worn around the wrist like a watch.

Torrington window cleaner dons a costume a day for charity: A window cleaner has raised thousands of pounds for charity after donning a different suit every day last month for work. Ian Kevern, from Torrington, created the Suitember challenge to raise money for Edukid and the Barnstaple Chemotherapy Unit appeal. So far Ian has raised £3,800. Ian said: “What a month it turned out to be. Torrington and surrounding community have been amazing, very supportive and encouraging. “I think this was helped by a daily blog on Facebook which kept everyone up to date with what I was wearing and what I got up to. “Every morning around 7am my wife Tanya launched the day to show what I would be dressed up in, she produced a concept photo which took a few hours every night to create.”

Ian fulfilled his window cleaning duties despite being stung by a hornet and being taken into hospital.

He said: “I think the worse day was when I was Spiderman. I got stung on the head by a massive hornet and had to go to hospital for two hours. “I had a bad reaction and went into anaphylactic shock and had to take some steroids to calm things down.”

Ian said his favourite suit was his Breaking Bad costume. He said: “The day I did the character Walter White I went into town and had just about everybody pose for a photo with me and had them holding a bag with blue sugar in it.”

Ian said September’s hot weather caused havoc when he wore long wigs. He said: “One day I was Woody Woodpecker and I was hot I went for a swim in the Torridge when my beak went somewhat limp. “I turned a few heads along the way, my favourite moment was when I took my dogs out dressed as Marilyn Monroe in a red dress and blonde wig. “A white van man tooted his horn and shouted out the window. His face was a picture when I turned my head to look at him.”

'Suitember' fancy dress challenge for Torrington window cleaner - Don't be surprised if you look outside and see Batman with a bucket of soapy water giving your windows a good scrub. A man from Torrington is donning a different fancy dress outfit every day throughout September to raise cash for charity. From Spiderman to Elvis, Ian Kevern, 45, will be wearing a variety of costumes on his window cleaning rounds. Ian will be dressing in some madcap outfits for a charity challenge which he has dubbed Suitember.

He said: “I was thinking about something to do following Movember, so I thought of Suitember. I thought I could wear Batman or Spiderman suits. I put it to my wife who thought it was a good idea. “My wife is an art teacher and has offered to do my makeup if needed. I don’t want to be wearing a hot mask all day, so I thought makeup would be better.” Ian said he was keen to hear from people who had any particular costumes they wanted him to wear.

He said: “I am open to offers of suits. If people want me to wear a particular suit I will for an extra donation to charity, as long as it isn’t a mankini. “I have already had one person ask me to wear a bright suit covered in printed balloons.” Ian will be raising money throughout September for Edukid and the Barnstaple Chemotherapy Unit appeal.

He said: “I asked people on Facebook what charity they wanted to donate to. A few people mentioned the chemotherapy unit. “I have a few friends going through chemotherapy. I have had cancer myself from a malignant mole on my leg. “The chemotherapy unit was a charity I wanted to donate to. I did a charity bike ride for Edukid last year so I wanted to donate to them again.”

Ian said he was looking forward to dressing up for work. He said: “Every day, including weekends, I will wear a suit. I might be down at Bude dressed as Batman. “It will be a bit of a challenge window cleaning at times.
