Recently spotted by a Window Tools member - a gadget to save neck pains when you are constantly looking up performing water fed pole work. "Windsurfingodie, " aka Paul who has bought a pair says "they have been great for me for larger jobs when I'm looking up for extended periods of time." "They are kind of pricey but almost the same price as a couple of trips to the chiropractor." He adds, "I use these and look straight ahead but I'm looking up through the glasses." "They work kind of the same as a periscope on a submarine." "I've totaled the amount of time I've saved looking up with my neck with with these this year and it's 140 hours." "You have to make your work as easy on your body as you can and these really helps me." "When I'm working I alternate between the CU glasses and looking up with my neck and can easily talk to someone by tilting my neck down very slightly." He also adds, "The only problem is when it's raining you can't really use them."
Originally a German invention, the belay glasses CU have an innovative design, which allows you to look up without straining your neck and therefore reduces in neck pain. CU are prism glasses. They basically allow you to keep your head straight while being able to see what happens directly above you. CU are easy to use and make a very clear, non-inverted view. The CU comes along in a solid plastic box with microfiber cleaning cloth and glasses holder. Made in Germany, with a high quality stainless steel frame & the prism (BK7) is a high quality optical glass. European website here & USA here.
Product Description: The CU belay glasses are an innovative new way to use prisms. Upon putting these glasses on the belayer can see straight up while looking straight ahead. The high quality glass is not only very durable and clear but it actually magnifies as well. Rather than hinges a flexible steel frame is used. The design allows them to be worn over prescription glasses or sunglasses. Completing the package is a neck attachment cord and a foam-padded plastic case.
ABOUT US : On a recent trip to Europe I saw two men climbing together and while they were belaying each other they took turns wearing the CU belay glasses. It was a difficult route, they were both falling, and yet, when belaying they were looking straight ahead in a very relaxed stance. Upon closer inspection and some questioning I made an inquiry about the glasses’ origin, located the website and found out that the German inventor was to be in the US for a climbing trip soon. Shortly after I was meeting this man, Albi, his wife and their son in Fruita, CO. and I became the owner of my own pair of the CU belay glasses. It did not take long until I was a believer in this innovative new type of glasses. I approached Albi and asked if I could help him to distribute his product in the US, Canada, and Mexico. He agreed and powernplay usa the North American counterpart to powernplay was created. We are here to offer you the world’s finest belay glasses.

Good find ! thanks for the links and the users report.
Belay Shades also makes a $45 version of belay glasses: www.belayshades.com
This may help if someone is looking for a cheap solution. Basically you can repurpose lazy reading glasses (which are relatively cheap) to be able to review upwards instead of downwards.
