Warm weather not sunny for snowpack levels: Summit County - In his efforts to do his part to make the world a brighter place, Bryn Hinvman with Fish Window Cleaning has been very successful getting a lot of windows clean. "Just cleaning windows," Hinvman said. These days, he is making good time thanks to plenty of sunshine along with dry, warm weather. Manager Tim Satterly says the days are perfect for window washing. "You know, that sun comes out, it heats things up, and the windows are easier to clean," Satterly said.
It's the kind of weather that's helped them clean more windows making December business spotless with a 20 percent increase over last December. The problem is, it's making for some terrible snow conditions. Statewide, the snowpack is around 33 percent below average. It's 42 percent below average in the Colorado Basin, where many ski areas are located. With grass still showing in some spots, residents in Summit County, like Michelle Renner, say it's a far cry from last year. "This time last year it was probably 9 degrees and we had several, several feet of snow on the ground," Renner said.
The good news is that State Water Commissioners are saying the long-term forecast shows an El Nina pattern setting up. That produces more snow after January and means that and the end of the snow season, the state's snowpack will be close to average. If it works out that way, it will mean Hinvman's pleasant window cleaning weather will be wiped clean, making things more difficult. "If it's dumping, you can't always work," Hinvman said. Still, he says he'll be out there wiping away the grim in sun or snow. "Someone's got to do it," he said.
