Town mourns for its much-loved lost son: Tributes have been pouring in for Ben Guest, the town’s beloved window cleaner, who tragically passed away aged 35 last week. The popular Thame figure, who was a familiar face in the High Street, died on Wednesday evening after suffering from a seizure. Close personal friend and landlord of the Cross Keys pub Peter Lambert said: “He was one of the first people we met in Thame when we moved here. “He was really kind to us. He got involved with everything and always wanted to help. “All he wanted to do was please people. “He was always there and always used to jump behind the bar and collect glasses and lend a hand. He was that sort of person. “Ben was always coming up with ideas of ways to raise money for charity. He was so generous. “It’s such a shame he was taken so early.”
Ben’s funeral takes place at St Mary’s Church at 1.30pm Friday. Ben’s family would like to ask those attending to wear blue ties rather than black, as Ben always liked blue. The window cleaner was an extremely popular figure in Thame and the shock of his passing has led to countless people expressing their condolences. Several people have voiced their grief on the The Thame Gazette website. Chrissie Butler said: “The good always die young, Thame will never be the same now without Ben, RIP.” Vikki Crane said: “Everyone has a story to tell about Ben, he was so kind-hearted and always eager to help anyone. “He was our ‘here to help hero’ of Thame. So going to miss him. “Thame will never be the same without Ben popping up here, there and everywhere. Our thoughts are with his family at this tragic time. RIP Benny Boy XX.”
Yorick and Penny said: “We are both still reeling from the news about Ben, it hasn’t really sunk in. Our thoughts are with his family. Ben was a good man with a good heart and Thame will not be the same without him.” Baldy and Angie said: “So sad to hear this news. Ben always had time for people and was a cheeky, chirpy, chap. “You will be missed mate. Our thoughts to the family and take some comfort that in a short time he made a big impression. “Ben was well liked by Thame folk, a true star RIP.”

On Facebook people have been leaving messages of support and grief on Ben’s profile. Some of these said: “So sorry to hear of your (our) loss. Will remember Ben as the happy young man who it was always a pleasure to run into and say hi.” Another said: “Ben always had a smile and a chat whenever we met, he will be so sadly missed thoughts and prayers to his family, RIP Ben.” Another mournful friend wrote: “A wonderful young man he will be sorely missed by all who knew him ...”
Ben obviously touched a lot of people’s hearts, one couple posted together: “I have lost a dear friend, I am devastated, Our deepest condolences to Marie and Terry (Ben’s parents). “Ben may your soul rest in eternal peace you will always be in our hearts and thoughts” Someone else wrote: “So sorry to hear the news and many condolences. I shall always see Ben grinning as we played the open mics at the Swan. RIP Ben, smiling, happy and always wanting to chat about whatever. A light in a sometimes gloomy world.” Another mourner said: “Cheerio Ben mate, I will seriously miss your enthusiasm, Thame has become just a little bit poorer for your premature departure.”
