Water Fed Pole At Height + Fatal Fall For Austrian Window Cleaner

Window cleaners abseiling in to put a sparkle on Curve theatre's giant windows: Abseiling is usually left to the extreme sportsmen – but now window cleaners are getting in on the act. Daredevil cleaners descended from 80 feet in the air to scrub the windows of the £61 million Curve theatre. Local cleaning firm Hands were tasked with the job of cleaning the 640 panes of glass, which cover a total of 4,500 square metres. Last year, cleaners used a vehicle with an extendable arm to wash the building's windows, but the company were keen to avoid closing roads this year. Tim Pawley, industrial manager for Hands, said: "Closing roads on a one-way route can be very inconvenient for Curve and for drivers so, after a trial, we decided we would do the job with abseilers. "They carried a pole which brought up fresh water from a van below.
"It is a big task but our staff are very highly trained and it is going very well." Curve officially opened on Saturday, after its summer break, with auditions for its Christmas show The King and I. Its first show of the season – Vertical Road – had its opening showing last night. Pictured: Jeremy Knapper cleaning the windows with a water fed pole.

Window cleaner dies after fall: A 30-year-old window cleaner has died hours after falling six metres to the ground. Authorities in Feldkirch said the man was rushed to a local hospital after the tragic incident which occurred in the nearby town of Hohenems yesterday (Tues). He died from serious head injuries after landing on the kerbstone in the worksite accident.
